Takkyubin is Japan’s door-to-door parcel service. Travellers use it to have suitcases delivered from Narita or Haneda airport straight to the hotel, so they can take the train or bus without heavy luggage. At the airports, Yamato (“TA-Q-BIN”, known by its black cat logo), JAL ABC and Sagawa run their own counters. Depending on size, prices are roughly 1,500 to 3,600 yen per piece, and same-day delivery costs more. All details below come from the operators, as of 25 October 2026.
Key takeaways
- Explore the city without your suitcase: Radical Storage* (advertising) brokers luggage storage at partner locations in Tokyo, bookable online in advance, from ¥270 per day according to the provider.
- There are counters at every terminal of both airports, in Narita on the arrivals level (1F) before security.
- Standard delivery: drop-off in the afternoon, delivery in the Kanto area usually the next day. Same-day is only possible with an early drop-off and only to certain wards.
- The hotel must be staffed and know the guest’s name and check-in date. Airbnb and unstaffed lodgings are excluded.
- You cannot send cash, passports, valuables worth more than 300,000 yen or hazardous goods. If your luggage contains batteries, ask at the counter first.
- Return trip: luggage can be sent from the hotel to the airport and collected at the counter on the day of departure.
Where are the Takkyubin counters at the airport?
Narita (NRT): Yamato, JAL ABC and Sagawa each have their own counters, all before the security check. To send luggage after landing, use the arrivals level (1F) in Terminal 1 and 2. Terminal 3 has only a Yamato counter on 1F. To collect luggage on your departure day, use the departures level (Terminal 1: 4F, Terminal 2: 3F).
| Narita | Level | Provider | Opening hours per the airport |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arrivals, Terminal 1 and 2 | 1F | Yamato | 06:30 to 22:30 (if the last landing is later, until one hour after it) |
| Arrivals, Terminal 1 and 2 | 1F | JAL ABC, Sagawa | from 06:30 until one hour after the last international arrival |
| Arrivals, Terminal 3 | 1F | Yamato only | 06:30 to 22:30 |
| Departures, Terminal 1 and 2 | 4F / 3F | Yamato, JAL ABC (Sagawa only Terminal 1 South Wing) | 07:00 to 21:00 |
Haneda (HND): Yamato, JAL ABC and Sagawa operate here too, with hours that differ by terminal and counter. As a rough guide, the airport operator lists hours from about 05:00 to 06:15 until 22:00 or 23:00 at the international terminals. The JAL ABC departures counter in Terminal 3 is staffed around the clock. Exact hours are on the airport operator’s page (source below).
How does sending luggage from the airport to the hotel work?
With Yamato you do not need a reservation. At the counter you scan a QR code, choose the hotel (its phone number is enough) and enter the guest’s name and check-in date. You pay at the counter by card or cash. Staff check size and weight. You do not need a Japanese spelling of the address with Yamato, and JAL ABC only needs the hotel name and looks up the address.
Important for delivery: someone at the destination must accept the parcel. That is why Yamato does not deliver to Airbnb and other unstaffed lodgings, or to convenience stores. We found no statement about accepting parcels before check-in for the hotels listed on this site, so email the hotel in advance and ask whether it accepts parcels.
How fast does the luggage arrive?
- Standard (next day): At Yamato in Narita the cut-off is 18:00 at Terminal 1 and 2 and 17:30 at Terminal 3. In the Kanto area the luggage arrives the next day.
- Same-day with Yamato (Narita): drop-off by 10:30 (Terminal 1 and 2) or 9:50 (Terminal 3), delivery in the evening between 18:00 and 21:00 in Tokyo and several neighbouring prefectures. For a one-night stay Yamato may refuse same-day delivery. Weather and traffic can cause delays.
- Same-day with JAL: cut-off 14:00, delivery to the hotel by 22:00 in Tokyo’s 23 wards and Urayasu, at Haneda Terminal 3 and Narita Terminal 2. The quota is limited, and you can register online up to two months ahead.
- Same-day with Sagawa (Narita, new since July 2026): acceptance from 06:30 to 14:00, arrival after 16:00 according to Sagawa, in ten Tokyo wards and Urayasu.
How much does Takkyubin from the airport cost?
Prices per piece, in yen, according to Yamato for destinations in the Kanto area from Narita (sum of length, width and height):
| Size (sum of three sides) | Price in yen | Maximum weight |
|---|---|---|
| up to 60 cm | 1,500 | 2 kg |
| up to 80 cm | 1,790 | 5 kg |
| up to 100 cm | 2,090 | 10 kg |
| up to 120 cm | 2,600 | 15 kg |
| up to 140 cm | 3,190 | 20 kg |

A normal suitcase usually measures 140 to 160 cm. Yamato also lists a counter handling fee of 660 yen at the airport. The page does not clearly say whether it is already included in the price table, so ask for the total price at the counter. JAL offers same-day delivery for 4,500 yen per piece (maximum 180 cm and 30 kg, hotels only). For same-day delivery from Narita Terminal 1 North, Sagawa lists prices from 2,120 yen for pieces up to 60 cm, including the airport fee. Yamato’s prices for Haneda vary by destination area and are not consistent on the operator’s page, so we do not give a fixed amount here. Prices change, the date of the source is given below.
How do I send luggage from the hotel to the airport?
With Yamato’s “Airport TA-Q-BIN” you hand in the luggage up to two days before departure (three days in some areas) at a Yamato counter or branch. The parcel waits at the airport on your departure day and is collected at the counter against the sender’s receipt. The limit is 30 kg. JAL ABC works similarly: pick-up at the departures counter (Narita Terminal 2, 3F, 07:00 to 21:00) against a copy of the receipt, and a third party may collect it. Delivery abroad is not possible.
What can I not send by Takkyubin?
- cash, securities, passports and cards
- valuables and parcels with contents worth more than 300,000 yen
- flammable and explosive substances and hazardous goods
- products with batteries: Yamato lists them among items that cannot be sent, and special rules apply on air routes. For laptops, cameras, phones and power banks, ask at the counter first
- with JAL ABC also fragile items, fresh food, liquids (including alcohol), precision devices and musical instruments
Are there alternatives to sending luggage?
- Radical Storage* (advertising), the comfortable option: you book a spot online in advance at a partner in Tokyo, drop your suitcase there and explore the city without luggage. The provider states from ¥270 per day (as of 25 Oct 2026). These are shops and hotels in the city, not counters in the terminal; check location, opening hours and price before you book. More options in the city (station lockers, apps, hotel) are compared in the guide Luggage storage in Tokyo.
- Coin lockers: In Narita they usually cost 400, 600 or 800 yen per day depending on size (Terminal 3 partly charges by the hour). In Haneda they cost roughly 400 to 900 yen per day, depending on terminal and size.
- Left-luggage counters: At JAL ABC, storage costs 800, 1,000 or 2,000 yen per calendar day depending on size. In Haneda the airport lists 800 to 2,000 yen per piece at its counters.
- ecbo delivery: a service with same-day delivery from Haneda to Tokyo’s 23 wards and Urayasu, from 1,600 yen according to the provider. Narita is not mentioned on its page.
