You land in the morning and your connection leaves in the evening, or you arrive at night and fly on early: a whole hotel night is not worth it for a few hours of sleep. The airports of Tokyo offer day rooms, short stays and showers for this. The offers differ in one point that decides everything: are they inside the security area (no entry to Japan) or outside it (entry required)? This guide sorts the options at Narita and Haneda with the prices and times we could verify. As of 25 October 2026.
Key takeaways
- Sleep without entering Japan: at Narita Terminals 1 and 2 have day rooms inside the security area, at Haneda the transit hotel in Terminal 3. Both are only for travellers with an international flight.
- Rough price: about 3,000 yen per hour for a single room with shower (Narita and the Refresh Room at Haneda). Capsule beds are cheaper, from about 3,000 yen for two hours at Haneda.
- Time windows: the day rooms at Narita only take guests between 7:00 and about 21:00. At night and early in the morning that leaves capsule hotels and showers that run around the clock.
- Booking: directly with the operator. The transit hotel at Haneda accepts bookings only through its own website, not through booking portals.
- Alternative: a hotel with an early check-in can be cheaper than a day room, for example about 1,000 yen per hour at the Narita Gateway Hotel.

Narita: day rooms inside the security area
The airport runs day rooms (nap rooms) in Terminals 1 and 2 behind security. In Terminal 1 they are in the central building on the 3rd floor (7:00 to 21:00, last admission 20:00), in Terminal 2 in the satellite on the 3rd floor (7:00 to 21:30, last admission 20:30). According to the operator they are open to travellers who have completed departure procedures and to transit passengers, so you do not have to enter Japan.
- Prices: single room 3,000 yen for the first 60 minutes, then 1,500 yen per 30 minutes. Twin room for two adults 5,000 yen for 60 minutes, then 2,500 yen per 30 minutes. The rooms have a shower. The airport page shows no date, so prices may differ.
- Booking: the rooms can be reserved online through the airport’s page, showers cannot. According to the operator the reservation lapses if you do not show up within 30 minutes, foreign guests need a copy of the passport, and children under 12 may stay in the room.
- Daytime only: operation ends in the evening. Narita has flight operations only from 6:00 to 24:00, and outside those hours you may not stay in the security area, as the airport writes.
Narita: capsule hotel and café before security
If you are entering anyway or are not yet in the security area, Terminal 2 has two alternatives.
9h nine hours. The capsule hotel is in the basement of the P-2 car park, right at Terminal 2, before security. The front desk is staffed around the clock. According to the operator the day-use offer (“nap”) has check-in from 9:00 to 17:00 and use until 18:00. Showers are open around the clock. The airport page gives 1,500 yen for the first hour of a nap and 500 yen for each further hour, this price has no date there, so check it when you book. The house does not accept large suitcases, and luggage cannot be stored before check-in. The airport’s luggage storage exists for that, more in the guide Luggage at the airport. The airport points out that the house can be fully booked on the day of a flight. More about the house in the guide Capsule hotels at the airport.
Airport Café NODOKA. A rest area in the main building of Terminal 2, 2nd floor, open around the clock, with reclining chairs, mats, private rooms and separate showers. There is no reservation, and Priority Pass is not accepted. The prices appear on the page only as an image, so we cannot state them.
Haneda: transit hotel and Refresh Room in Terminal 3
Royal Park Hotel Tokyo Haneda – Transit. The house is in Terminal 3 inside the security area, with the entrance at Gate 114. According to the hotel’s page two groups can use it: international transit passengers who do not enter Japan, and travellers departing internationally from Terminal 3 who have already completed check-in, security and exit immigration. Excluded are travellers entering Japan, those connecting to a domestic flight, and those connecting to an international flight in Terminal 2, because there is no connection inside the security area between Terminal 2 and 3.
- Plans: the page lists plans for 6 and 12 hours. Check-in is possible from 5:00 to 1:00, check-out is at 1:00, and the front desk is closed from 1:00 to 5:00. Room prices are not on the page, they appear in the booking system.
- Refresh Room: without a bed, with a shower, for one person: 5,000 yen for the first hour, 3,000 yen for each further hour. Booked by phone.
- Booking: rooms only through the hotel’s official website, booking portals are excluded. On the same day it works by phone or at the desk, and there is no waiting list. The hotel also warns about messages that pose as hotel staff and offer bookings through Booking.com.
Royal Park Hotel Tokyo Haneda (before security). The main house has a Refresh Room without a bed, with shower, sofa and TV, around the clock: 3,000 yen for the first hour, 2,000 yen for each further hour. For one person (and a child up to primary-school age), booking by phone or at the desk. We could not verify a classic day room.
First Cabin Terminal 1. The capsule hotel is on the arrivals level of Terminal 1. The short stay lasts at least two hours: 4,000 yen in First Class and 3,000 yen in Business Class, each further hour 2,000 and 1,500 yen respectively. Admission until 21:00, latest check-out 23:00. Luggage is stored only on the day of the stay after check-in. Terminal 1 is for domestic flights only, so if you arrive internationally you must enter Japan for this house.
Showers at the airport
At Haneda Terminal 3 there are, on the 2nd floor of the arrivals hall (before security), 21 shower rooms and five Refresh Rooms with reclining chairs around the clock: shower 1,500 yen for 30 minutes, Refresh Room 3,000 yen for 60 minutes, then 1,500 yen per 30 minutes, no reservation. Terminal 2 has ten showers (5:00 to 22:00), Terminal 1 has none. At Narita the shower in the security area costs 1,500 yen for 30 minutes and cannot be reserved. The Haneda airport page names no rest areas with a lying surface, and the hotels in the terminals are, according to the airport, open around the clock.
Check in early instead of a day room
If your room is booked anyway, an earlier check-in can be cheaper. The Narita Gateway Hotel lists early check-in and late check-out between 11:00 and 15:00 for 1,000 yen per hour each, subject to availability. The Villa Fontaine Grand Haneda lists early check-in from 12:00 and late check-out until 14:00 for 3,300 yen per hour and room each. For the Villa Fontaine Premier Haneda the home page shows a day-use plan between flights, but we could not read its length and price. We could not verify day use at the Hotel Nikko Narita, the Haneda Excel Tokyu and the Hilton Narita, so ask there directly.
What is worth it when?
This is our assessment, not a statement from the operators:
- Long layover, no wish to enter: the day room at Narita (until about 21:00) or the transit hotel at Haneda, both without entering Japan. Check beforehand whether your connection is in the same terminal.
- Night arrival, early onward flight: a capsule hotel or a Refresh Room with a shower, see also Arriving in Tokyo at night.
- Just shower and change: the shower in the terminal is cheaper than any room.
- More than about six hours: count on a night in an airport hotel, see Early-flight hotels and Stopover with an overnight stay.
Entry, times and luggage
Staying in the security area needs no entry, leaving it does. More in the guide Tokyo layover. Neither Narita nor Haneda gives an official minimum connection time, and the Royal Park page advises checking your airline’s check-in time beforehand. Haneda Terminal 3 is open around the clock, while Terminals 1 and 2 close their domestic areas at 0:00. If you cannot or do not want to take your suitcase into the room, Radical Storage* (advertising) arranges luggage storage in the city, from 270 yen per day according to the provider (as of 25 Oct 2026). These are shops and hotels in the city, not places at the airport, see Luggage storage in Tokyo.
